Mom’s Birthday

Today is my mom’s birthday! Our good friends (Mom’s best buddies) Shelley and Eric are here to help celebrate. They flew over from their home in New Brunswick and we had already had several great days exploring and cycling around the area with them.

We went shopping around in Mirepoix for a bit and then went back home. We had to get ready for the night because we were going to go to the abbey in Camon for my Mom’s birthday dinner. When we got at the abbey we realized that this was going to be a really cool experience. We rang the bell that echoed down the cold and dark stone hallway. We met the lady who was going to serve our food for the night. Her name was Katie. She led us through the waiting room then into the living room. The whole place was empty except for us. She then sat us down on the couches and we drank champagne and wine.

Half way through our sitting a couple came in too. We talked to them for a bit and then went into the dining room where we were to have our 5 coarse meal served to us. We sat down at the big table on the comfy chairs. The whole abbey was decorated with antique furniture, and there were frescos all over the walls. It was a really pretty place.

The meal was amazing, and they served me as much wine as I wanted! After the dinner I went out of the dining and lounging area with my dad into the big stone hallways. It was really cold in the hallways compared to in the dining area. The whole abbey was immaculate. There were huge spiral staircases that went up to all the different floors. On the second floor where I ventured up there were big tables with knight helmets on them.

The whole hallway was dark, but light by the big candles on the tables along the walls. It was really cool and eerie. When my dad and I returned we all got our coats on and left. When we got home my mom opened all her presents from us and our friends and we went to sleep. A really wonderful night with lots (lots!!) of laughter.
