Our visit to Spain

Sept. 30 was the day we had our big trip to Spain. Rivel was not too far from the Spanish border so we all packed our gear into the car and headed to the highway. The whole time we were driving my mom and dad were deciding which route we would take to Spain, and which route would be the fastest. My mom kept saying that we should buy a map of Spain, but my dad said we didn’t need one because we had our GPS. We soon found out that we should have bought a map. Once we had the GPS plugged in it led us to the road of horror. This road was obviously not used very much because it was at the top of these huge mountains with broken railings at the side. The road was also very small and narrow and we were 2000 meters up. Worst of all; it wasn’t a short road. We kept on driving on this road for two hours. There was no escape from it. When we finally did get off of it we all burst out of the car in the first town we found and had a breather. We got back in the car and made our way to Barcelona now that we were in Spain. We made sure we stayed on the highways afterwards. Once we got there we stopped in a campsite and set up our tent.

We had a few snacks and then went out for the night to look around a small city near Barcelona called Matero. When we arrived there we all realized that Matero had a lot of shopping in it. My sister was really happy. We looked at a lot of stores and then ate supper at a really nice restaurant.

When we had all finished our meals we drove back to the campsite and called it a night. When we woke my mom said that we were going to take a tour bus around the city since we didn’t really know anything about it. Since Barcelona is a really big city my dad refused to drive there so we took a bus to the nearest train station that went there. When we got off the train found an information tourist place, where we bought tickets for our bus. When we got to the place where the bus stopped every once in a while we realized that it would be a bit of a wait till we got on our bus.
After a long wait, an empty bus finally got there and we jumped on. The bus drove around everywhere, all over Barcelona and it was a pretty city. At one of the stops we hopped off and found a place for lunch. It was a really yummy place where we ate Spanish food. After our lunch we took a nice stroll down the beach. The water and the sand were beautiful. The sand was a pink and white colour. The water was a perfect turquoise.

We got back on the bus again and got more information on the city. When we got off the bus again my sister really wanted to go to H+M. So we walked a while up the street and went into the huge store. My dad and I decided to wait outside. We waited for an hour. When my mom and my sister finally got out it was dark out. So we all wanted to get back to the campsite. That’s when we got really lost. We kept going in stores asking where the train station was and then getting more lost because it seemed that each person we asked would say something different. We then found a metro line and took one to the train station. When we got at the train station we got on the train that went back near the campsite. We all wanted to get there at a certain time because we didn’t want to miss our bus that would take us from the train station to our campsite. When the train got there we realized that we had missed our bus and that that was the last one. So we all walked along the beach. It was nice at first walking in the sand a night, but then when the beach ended… (That wasn’t nice at all). That’s when we were walking along the train tracks. We saw a train coming, but it was really far away so we took a while crossing the tracks. Just as we crossed the tracks it past us really fast, it was one of the speed trains. We then walked on the side of the busy highway. We had to quickly jump into the ditch every time a car passed us. Finally we saw the sign that said our campsite was only 1 km away. We were all so happy to see that sign. We figure we walked at least 7 km. We all got ready for bed quickly when we got to our tent went to bed very, very relieved.

The next day we made the long drive back home. This time we took the more popular highway route along the coast up to France. We stopped in at the Salvadore Dali Museum in Figuerra. This, I think was the most interesting museum any of us had ever been to. Dali was quite the genius and his work went from the almost weird style to very detailed. I liked his paintings of the dripping clocks. There was also a Marilyn Monroe room where all the furniture was arranged like the face of Marilyn Monroe. You climbed up these stairs and looked through some binocular things and all of a sudden this room turned into a face. Very cool.

After that, we crossed over back into France. It felt good to be home.
